They’ll be sharing some of their best-kept travel secrets, their experiences, photo essays and tips on local travel and, hopefully, get you a little bit more excited to travel in South Africa.
1. Tells us more about Meletso Blog and, why you created it?
Meletso blog was created from friends and family always asking my fiancé and I where to go for dates or holidays. Meletso is a combination of our second names.
2. What does travel mean to you and, where does your love for travel come from?
Travel means freedom to me, also getting out of comfort zone is the best thing you can do. Travel opens your mind and broadens my understanding of the world; making me so grateful to live in a world as beautiful as this.
I have always had a love for traveling every since a young girl. Growing up in Mpumalanga, I have had numerous road trips with my parents and older brother.
3. What is your planning tips and budget tricks when traveling?
Take advantage of long weekends and make the most out of your leave but also travel off-peak like in winter months and stay for shorter periods. Self-catering will also save you buck. And, going into a group will cut your expenses by a lot.
4. Your most memorable trip and, why?
Mauritius. My fiancé and I visited the beautiful island of Mauritius two years ago and we instantly fell in love with it. The most beautiful beaches and hospitable people. And the food, oh the food! Only a four-hour flight – I can’t wait to return one day.
5. Any general trends affecting travel/travel industry these days?
Shotleft’s are becoming very popular and are easier on your wallet.
6. Your favourite foods to eat while on the road?
I love to snack, so fruits and nuts and you need to stay hydrated, I always drink a lot of water. I love to stop and take a proper break when we do a road trip, small coffee shops are our favourite for a yummy sandwich.
7. Worst travel experience so far and, why?
We won a competition and visited a lodge for 2 nights. Unfortunately, our room was poorly insulated and it was very cold and there weren’t extra blankets and our water wasn’t warm the next day so we had to start our day with a cold shower. It made for a memorable experience though.
8. Any advice to people who would like to start traveling?
Just do it! Do your research and purchase tickets and accommodation in advance but just take a leap and explore our beautiful country.
9. Who are your favourite bloggers/travel sites you follow? It can be both local or international?
I love following: Cee from Ceeces Travel, Farirai from Gophari Travel, Gaynor from Tulip and Phoenixes and Sara from In Africa N Beyond.
