Let’s go Glamping with Africamps in Oakhurst, Wilderness
Ever heard of luxury camping? That’s the prime definition of the word, ‘Glamping’, and Africamps knows exactly how to revolutionize the term.
So you can’t imagine my excitement when they asked to stay at their newest addition in Oakhurst in Wilderness.
I’ve experienced Africamps before at their Swellendam location so I’m familiar with the setup and, everyone knows I’m one of their biggest fans seeing that I already have plans to stay at their one at Stanford come 2019.
The drive to Oakhurst, Wilderness takes approximately 5 and a half hours (452km) along the lushes, countryside N2 if you’re coming from Cape Town and then onto the Seven Passes road that is undergoing major roadworks so do expect to sit in a few stop-and-go. With about a 2.5km gravel road, you will arrive at the Oakhurst campsite.
The layout of the accommodation is all the same if you’ve been at their other sites but what makes each site truly unique is the landscape, activities, and location.
Africamps glamping tents are more than luxury. It can accommodate up to 5 people with two double beds and a bunk bed, a fully-equipped kitchen, a dining area to make memories with family and friends, a seating area where the sun literally bakes on your skin, a fireplace, as well as a full operating bathroom that will make you relax – Now that’s camping in style.
Don’t get me started on the beautiful, open-deck patio; overlooking the Outeniqua Mountains. I suggest you spend your mornings outside; listening to the birds’ chirp, eating breakfasts while sipping on your coffee while you hear nature calls from nearby calf’s seeing that it is a working dairy farm.
It’s a self-catering establishment but they do offer breakfast baskets as well as a traditional South African braai pack for dinner that’s really convenient if you don’t have time to go to the shops beforehand. Many of the fresh products such as the milk and eggs come directly from the farm itself; still keeping in the fresh goodness.
What to do there?
There are many fun-filled family activities to do. Do a guided 1h30 horse riding tour for a wonderful scenic view through the forest and around the farm.
Hire a few bicycles and ride the many trails and obstacles on the property. Oakhurst farm has amazing views and picturesque landscapes that are perfect for a cycling session. There are hiking trails behind Oakhurst cottages that has a stunning waterfall that’s a must-see.
