Cocoa Wah Wah in Rondebosch
Breakfast has never been the most important meal of the day for me. Its usually substituted by at least three cups of strong coffee but the older I got, the more I enjoyed small breakfast spots like Cocoa Wah Wah in Rondebosch.
This hipster yet touristy cafe is situated in the busy main street where mostly all UCT students hang out to grab a bite to eat but it’s rare to see anyone on a Saturday morning so it’s ideal for me to grab their breakfast special from 07:30 – 09:00 am going for only R55.00.
Who are they
Over the last 10 years, Cocoa’s has become a popular cafe in the areas they located. They have three different stores; Cocoa Oola in Kloof Street which boast a large selection of local craft beers that pair brilliantly with our adventurous burger and pizza, Cocoa Cha Chi in Lower Observatory that has a unique boho charm and, Cocoa Wah Wah in Rondebosch. Each of these stores is uniquely decorated and has its own character, reflecting the local vibe.
But first, breakfast
The breakfast special they have on offer is definitely an attraction many should take advantage of. The selection ranges from Benedict’s, croissants and maple french toasts; all served with either filter coffee, cappuccino or juice. Whichever you prefer. Courtney went straight for the breakfast expresso served with scrambled eggs with two rashers of streaky bacon on a slice of sourdough while I had to make my breakfast due to this special diet I’m on. I went for the old favourite; avo on wholewheat toast accompanied by a hot cappuccino.
Breakfast isn’t all they cater for. Lunch and light meals for dinner combined with Happy Hour make it a buzzing place in the evening. Their menu ranges from tramezzini’s to pasta and pizza and, and a great selection of wine and cocktails to choose from.
The service we received so far is impeccable and that’s probably because we’re there quite early in the mornings. If you find yourself in the area, make sure to have a sumptuous breakfast.
